Commercial tiling – Gresham Palace, Budapest

Commercial tiling – Gresham Palace, Budapest

The work was undertaken by a friend of mine. It started all started at the Gresham Palace when the Zsolnay tiles were carefully removed from the walls in such a way that some of them could be saved for reuse.

My friend started to produce new tiles in a Szigetvar workshop to the same designs as the old tiles and using the old methods. Hand-made stencils were produced first, the ceramic base material was put onto these, and they were placed into the kiln to be fired for correct hardness. Finally, the new tiles were applied with saved old tiles to the walls of Gresham.
The work has been appreciated by the awarding of the „Best Hotel in the World” title to the Gresham since then.
